This week Global Design Project is celebrating it’s 150th post. How could I not participate? I love the sketch. Here’s my take on the sketch using the Tropical Chic stamp set and Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper.
Here’s the sketch for this challenge. Just click on the sketch to go to Global Design Project web site.
Design Notes for Tropical Chic Card:
Don’t you just love that Tropical Escape Designer Paper? I think the colors are just terrific. Here’s what I picked out from the paper:
There are some small dots of Blushing Bride on the Designer paper that I used on this card. I tried to bring them out a bit by using some Blushing Bride card stock for the banner and behind the leaf. I also added some Blushing Bride ink to the Glimmer Paper. Have you ever done that. It’s really easy to color Glimmer Paper. It just takes a sponge or Dauber and ink. I did a video about this a while back. You might want to check it out.
Supply List for Tropical Chic Card:

So, purchase a regular ink pad (not Versamark, Memento, Staz-On or uninked Craft Pads) and you have a chance to win another one!

Today I am going to show you a card made with the great Sea of Textures stamp set and also show you a video about paper tearing. I’m a designer on the Try Stampin’ on Tuesday site and today I’m presenting the technique challenge for July.
I love that octopus! AFTER I stamped and cut him out, I realized it’s not a very realistic color. However, I’m claiming artistic license and we’re going with the Blackberry Bliss.
Design Notes for Sea of Textures Card:
The octopus and the coral were easy. I stamped and then cut them out with the Under the Sea Framelits. I cut the reef out and used the piece of card stock as a mask. Next, I used some Shimmery White Embossing Paste to create the reef effect.
Did you look carefully at the octopus? At his eyes? I used two tiny pieces from the Tranquil Textures Sprinkles and the Fine Tip Glue Pen to give him eyes!
Learn about the paper tearing techniques in the video below.
Supply List for Sea of Textures Card:
The Sea of Textures stamp set is part of a bundle. Buy both and save 10%. The stamp set comes in either clear mount or wood mount.

Last week I made a gusseted bag from the flat Striped Treat Bag. A few folks asked me how it was done. So, today – a video tutorial. To be honest, I’ve made the process a bit easier than the process I used in the original post. (See it here.) Here’s a peek at what I created for the video.
Aren’t these perfect for Valentine treats?
I am pretty sure I saw this done at a Stampin’ Up! gathering a year or so ago. Nonetheless, here is my take on how to create a gusseted bag from a flat one.
I also wrote out the directions so that you could save them for future reference.
I can’t decide which one I like the best.
Supplies for Valentine Striped Treat Bags:
So, do you see how valuable the Stampin’ Trimmer can be? You need one. When you order a Trimmer, I will send you an extra package of Trimmer Cutting Blades as a Thank You gift. The Trimmer comes with one blade but you’ll be prepared when the time comes to replace that blade.
Order the Trimmer, a package of Striped Treat Bags and a stamp set like the Heart Happiness set and you will be all ready to create some great Valentine treat bags. In addition, you will earn a Sale-A-Bration item. Win! Win!
Thanks for stopping by today. Look for another blog post later today. I’m participating in an International Blog Highlight. Each participant will feature something made with a favorite item from either the Occasions Catalog or Sale-A-Bration. Sure to have lots of good ideas there!
Amazing You is one of the great new stamp sets from the Sale-A-Bration brochure. Just purchase $50 and it can be yours. Today I have featured this great stamp set in a birthday card for a friend.
There’s more about Amazing You that I’ll be sharing soon. Well, I’ll give you a hint… there is a coordinating set of Thinlits that you can also get for FREE! Some samples next week. You are going to love it!
Are you wondering about the “masking” part referred to in the blog post title? That’s how I got the great gold accent behind the flower.
I’ve been playing a lot with masking the last week or two and decided to create a video tutorial for you. I show you two types of masking. You will see they are easy and easier!
Design Notes for Amazing You Card:
First, I inked up the flower stamp with Calypso Coral and then I used a Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up the leaves. I created a mask of the flower and leaves then used that to cover the Calypso Coral and Wild Wasabi image. Next, I used VersaMark and Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder with the sunburst stamp. I thought the “celebrate” repeated along side in Calypso Coral ink was a good way to finish it off. Finally, I added some Gold Metallic Thread behind the focal image. You can never go wrong adding some gold.
Supply List for Amazing You Card:
Don’t forget, you can get this stamp set for free. Just order $50 in products from the Occasions catalog or the Annual Catalog. For each $50 you purchase you will qualify for a Free item.
Thanks for stopping by today.
In less than two weeks, Jerry and I leave for our vacation in Scotland. We’ve made all of our arrangements – flights, lodgings, car rental. But it occurred to me that I hadn’t prepared my travel journal. I love to take trip notes in a journal so that I can easily create an album when we return. One of the reasons that I wanted to go to Scotland is that part of my heritage is Scottish. My maiden name was Kerr – a good Scots name! So I looked up the Kerr clan plaid and tried to reproduce the plaid with Sponge Brayers. My colors are a little off but it’s fairly close!
Design Notes for Travel Journal with Sponge Brayers:
I feel so creative when I use the sponge brayers. Using brayers is a great way to make an ombre look or just a nice swath of color on your card. I like to use them to create a plaid. I made a video about this technique awhile back. You might want to check it out again. Here’s the link.
I wanted to keep the outside pretty simple. My journals usually take a beating. The Brushwork Alphabet stamp set came in handy here. I’ve tried putting all of the letters on a block and stamp the whole word. But, I’ve found that I don’t like the spacing. To solve this problem, just stamp one letter at a time. But keeping the letters lined up was a challenge. Solution? Washi Tape! I place a strip of Washi on the card stock and then line up the individual letters as I go along. That way I have better control of the spacing of the letters. When I’m done, I just carefully remove the Washi Tape.

The little date stamp is from Tabs for Everything. Isn’t it cute?
