Vertical Greetings for Graduation Wishes

The daughter of a good friend recently graduated from college. I recall when she was born! How did that time go by? Anyway, I wanted to send her a graduation card and the Vertical Greetings stamp set caught my eye. I’m happy with how this just a bit non-traditional graduation card turned out.

Design Notes for Vertical Greetings Graduation Card:

Again, I seem to be into clean and simple cards. The only cute/clever thing about this card was how I colored the topiary. I used my Stampin’ Write Markers to add color directly to the stamp. A little huff before I stamped and it was done.Vertical Greetings, Marker to stamp technique, Stampin' Up/,

Here’s a link to a little video I created to show you this easy technique.

Oh, well I guess there was one other cute thing. I used a Real Red Stampin’ Blend to color a few Epoxy Heart Droplets. Isn’t that a cool trick?

Lined Alphabet for HBD!

If you are not on Facebook or under the age of 40, you might not know that HBD stands for Happy Birthday! I thought it would be cute on a card front. I think I made sure that the receiver will understand the message I wrote with the Lined Alphabet stamp set.

Lined alphabet stamp set, masculine birthday, Classic Label Punch

Design Notes for Lined Alphabet HBD:

This card went together pretty quickly. Instead of starting with the Designer Paper, I started with the card stock color. Not necessarily a good idea, but I made it work. Garden Impressions is one of those paper stacks that you think you would not be able to use for a masculine card. But, don’t rule it out. The reverse side of most of the beautiful, flower filled papers has great designs. They can be used for anyone! Here’s a close up of the paper.

Garden Impressions 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up,

To create the banner, I used the Lined Alphabet stamps, I was going to color in the letters but opted not to. Maybe next time. I used the dot from the exclamation point to create the asterisk. Do you know where the “To You” came from? I think it’s pretty unexpected. It’s part of one of the sentiments in the Flourishing Phrases stamp set. I just used a Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write Marker to add color to the part I wanted to stamp.

Detailed Trio Punch Meets Beautiful Day

Sometimes I have things I love but don’t give enough credit. The Detailed Trio Punch is one of those things. It just adds so much to a card, tag or other project. Here’s a card I made yesterday that really shows off how lovely it is.

Detailed Trio Punch, Beautiful Day stamp set, heat embossing, Aqua Painters, Stampin' Up!,

And do you love the colors? I saw a color challenge on Splitcoaststampers and just loved it.

Design Notes for Detailed Trio Punch Birthday Card:

The flower from the Beautiful Day stamp set has to be one of my very favorite images. It’s just fun to color in, either with pencils, Stampin’ Blends, or as I did today, with ink and Aqua Painters. I like using the Black Heat Emboss Powder so the the colors stay in the areas. The heat embossing seems to act as a little corral to keep the water and ink inside. Makes this technique easy for a beginner!

The Happy birthday sentiment is from the Beautiful You stamp set. The stamp actually says, “Happy birthday, gorgeous”. For this card, I just wanted a simple, “Happy birthday.” So, I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up the parts of the stamp that I wanted to use.

Marker st stamp technique, Stampin' Up!,

The Detailed Trio Punch has three different punch capabilities.  (I know, that’s a surprise.) For this card, I used two of the three, the corner rounding part and the lovely open work part. The punch also helps you create tags by punching a slot for ribbons or twine.

Detailed Trio Punch, Stampin' Up!,

I washed the background with some Coastal Cabana ink and Aqua Painter. After mounting that piece on the Coastal Cabana card stock, I added a few Glitter Enamel Dots just to finish things off. I thought about adding some Wink of Stella but restrained myself. Maybe one source of glitter/glimmer is enough. What do you think?

Happy Wishes and Sweet Soiree – Delightful!

It’s true. Sometimes, I hoard the nicest paper. The new Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Paper is so beautiful, I knew it was going to be hard for me to cut any of it! But, – you will be proud – for today’s post, I used two different pieces.Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! ,

Isn’t that paper just gorgeous? Here’s a better look.

Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! ,

Can you see that some of the papers have a touch of silver in them? The two different pieces that I used both had some silver in them. Each piece in this package has one side that has silver highlights. How cool is that!

Are you wondering about why I stacked the pieces of card stock? I found myself arranging the paper that way and then remembered that I had seen a challenge with things stacked that way.  When you look at the other cards submitted, you’ll see that my take on the sketch is not as clever as some but I think I still followed the sketch. Click on the image below to go over to the site.

Design Notes for Sweet Soiree Cards:

Once I saw this gorgeous paper, I knew some of the colors would have to be used for mats. The question was, which colors? There are so many great ones to choose from! Each piece of card stock was cut 1/4″ smaller than the one before. I used two stamps from the Happy Wishes stamp set for the sentiment. I was able to add a little extra color by using Stampin’ Write Markers directly on the stamp before I stamped the image onto the card stock. The new Tutti Fruti Adhesive Backed Sequins are adorable and easy to use so I added three to each card.

Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! ,

To be honest, I haven’t stamped a sentiment on the inside. Birthday? Congratulations? Thinking of You? Lots of choices. I’ll stamp when I am ready to send it.

Tip for Today

Each Package of Designer Series paper lists the colors used in that package. Selecting from those colors is a great way to start your design process.

Vertical Greetings Meets Timeless Textures

The other day I used Vertical Greetings for part of the new home card I made. It reminded me that it had been too long since that set had seen ink. I remedied that problem yesterday. May is a month of so many birthdays that I didn’t need to think twice about which sentiment to use.

I love the Serene Scenery paper in the background. Sadly it is retiring. We know there will be new paper we will love just as much but just the same…

Vertical Greetings stamp set, Timeless Textures stamp set, birthday card, Stampin' Up!,

Design Notes Vertical Greetings Card:

I love the little potted tree in the Vertical Greetings set. I used some Stampin’ Write Markers directly on the stamp to get the three colors. If you aren’t familiar with this technique check out my Video Tutorials page. (Marker to Stamps Techniques is about 13 down the list.)

Are you wondering where Vertical Greetings meets Timeless Textures? Look carefully at the Island Indigo background piece, I was searching for something to put on that piece that would echo the circles in the Serene Scenery piece. I used Island Indigo Ink stamped off once on Island Indigo cardstock to give just a subtle look. I was pretty happy with it!

Supply List for Vertical Greetings card:

Both the Vertical Greetings and Timeless Textures stamp sets come in both clear mount and wood mount. Always nice to have choices.
