A Penguin Trio Says “Bon Voyage”

Some friends of ours are leaving on a cruise today. They are going around South America. They are excited about the cruise and especially about seeing some penguins. I thought that some punch art penguins would add to a cute Bon Voyage card.

Aren’t those penguins cute!?

Design Notes for Penguin Bon Voyage Card:

I guess I have been into punch art recently. If you recall, I created a card for a little boy that had a character from Sesame Street. I called it Elmo but it was really Bert, or was it Ernie. (Check out whoever it was here.) So, I’ve decided that punch art really means looking at whatever you want to create and breaking it down to basic shapes. Turns out penguins are really ovals and circles. I used Layering Oval Framelits Dies for the body and  1 1/4″ Circle Punch for the head. The feet are made with the bow from the Cookie Cutter Punch. The eyes and mouth are also from that punch. And the little flippers… Leaf Punch! Who knew!

I wanted the card to be a little bigger than usual. It ended up being 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Bring out the Envelope Punch Board! I used some paper from the Twinkle, Twinkle Designer Series Paper package.

Let’s Go Dashing Along! To A Sale!

I think it was during October that Stampin’ Up! offered the Dashing Along Designer Series Paper as a bonus for holding an event. I had some some of the paper was disappointed when it was no longer available. Guess what! It is back in stock. I was usingthe last bits of it to create these little treats for my friends. Oh, scroll down a bit to hear about the Sale!

Do they look familiar? I made something similar at Thanksgiving. Check out that post here.

Design Notes for Dashing Along Treat Holders:

Really, believe me, these are so easy.

  1. For Ghirardelli Square, cut paper 4″ x 4″.
  2. Use the Envelope Punch Board and score and punch at 2″ on all sides.
  3. Fold on score lines.
  4. Add a little adhesive on the bottom flap.
  5. Close and decorate with twine, thread or thick ribbon. Add a sprig if you like.

All Wrapped Up in Country Lane

Honestly, I wasn’t going to send out a blog post today. If you receive my Newsletter (and I hope you do), today you received a tutorial for a lotion holder. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here. Though we are only having six for dinner, I’ve got lots to do. However, I saw a really cute candy holder on Pootles website early this morning and decided I had to make some for our table with some pieces of Country Lane Designer Paper that I had left over.

The size is a bit different than the ones that Pootles made but it was pretty easy to make the adjustment.

Design Notes for Country Lane Treat Holders:

Since I used Ghirardelli Square Mints for my treats, I had to change the size. I ended up using 4″ x 4″ pieces of Country Lane Designer Series Paper and punched and scored at 2″ on the Envelope Punch Board.

I added just a bit of adhesive on one flap and closed around the mint. To decorate, I used some Linen Thread, Corrugated Elements and some of the Leaves Trinkets. Done!

I know these will look great on my table with the Napkin Rings I made with the October Paper Pumpkin materials. See that post here.

A Tall Card for Manly Monday

I rarely think to make a card that is not a standard size. Who knows what made me think to make a card that’s not standard and just a little bit of a tall card for today. Maybe because I got to use the Envelope Punch Board. I also had fun with the Stamparatus. Well, there are so many things to love on this card. Hard to say. But, here’s the card.

Before I Continue….

I got a bit of news on Sunday about the 24 Hour sale. Looks like some great stamp sets will be on sale. Yea!  Check out the video.

Here’s the list of stamp sets.

30th birthday sale items, Stampin' Up!

Design Notes for Tall Card:

When you want to have stamps placed “just so” the Stamparatus is the tool you need. I knew I wanted the “Happy Birthday” to be repeated on the card front – but not randomly! Because you can change where you put the stamp by moving the hinged acrylic plates, I knew I had to use the Stamparatus.

Stamparatus, Vertical Greetings stamp set, Rooted in Nature stamp set, Tine Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder, Galvanized Metallic Paper, Nature's Roots Framelits, Envelope Punch Board, Stampin' Up!, Diannescards.com

But, I didn’t move the acrylic plates! After each stamping, I moved the card stock down 1/2″ and over 1/2″.

Do you notice the partially stamped Happy Birthday? We have Small Grid Sheets that fit perfectly on the Stamparatus now. (I was originally going to have the sentiment repeat in a different way.)

I wanted to add some texture to the card front. The Galvanized Metallic Paper was meant for the Tin Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder!

And do you love this color combination? I think they compliment each other and both look great with the Galvanized Metallic Paper.

Because it was a different shape, I needed a custom made envelope. No problem with the Envelope Punch Board.

Supply List for Tall Card:

Both of the stamp sets that I used for this card come in both clear mount and wood mount. The Rooted in Nature set is also part of a Bundle. Always get the Bundle!

Don’t Forget!

Come back tomorrow and see what’s on sale. There is sure to be something you can’t live without.

Foil Frenzy Meets Baby Bear?

Foil Frenzy for new baby card? Well, Foil Frenzy for a baby card seems a bit out of the box, but I think it works. The daughter of my high school friend, Margaret, had a baby girl and since I’m a bit behind with the greetings I wanted to make it special! What’s more special than some glitz? What do you think?

Baby bear stamp set, Foil Frenzy DSP, baby card, Stampin' Up! diannescards.com, envelope punch board

Design Notes for Foil Frenzy Baby Card:

I really had fun making this card. (scroll to the bottom of this post to see my desk when this card was finished.)

And how about those layers? Some might think it’s too many but I couldn’t seem to stop myself. When I was planning the card, it was going to have a simple soft pink background. So much for that idea.

When I finished with the layers, I added the Crinkled Seam Binding bow but it still needed something. I stamped the ‘hello, baby..” sentiment twice, each time covering part of the sentiment with clear tape. That was I could stack the greeting rather than having it in a straight line. Then, since I had stacked the sentiment, I was able to cut it out with one oft he Sweet & Sassy Framelits.

Finally, since I had made the card 5″ x 5″, I needed an envelope. I love using the Envelope Punch Board. The striped Foil Frenzy paper worked!
