Joyous Noel and Joy Fold Christmas – Why Not?

Today’s fun fold is a repeat of joy fold card! I spent a long time avoiding making joy fold cards. I had convinced myself that it was too complicated. Look at me now. I love the Joyous Noel Specialty Paper and knew it would be great to make a joy fold card with. What do you think? Can you have too much joy?

Design Notes for Joy Fold Christmas Card:

I always think of a joy fold card as card with little card on top of it! For the little card on the top of this crd, I did some heat embossing, as you know, one of my favorite techniques. If you want to learn more about joy fold cards, check out this tutorial. Joy Fold Tutorial

Oh Joy Fold for Global Design Project

Joy Fold. I’ve done a little research and I can’t find out why this particular fold is called Joy Fold. Nonetheless, I like it and hope you will as well. Later on in the post, I’ve provided a link to a photo tutorial for this great fold.

I love this color combination! These are the challenge colors over at Global Design Project this week. Here’s the banner and link so that you can go check out all the great projects.

Design Notes for Joy Fold Card:

A few years ago, I came upon a tutorial for this fold. I found it a bit confusing, made one card and filed it away. I decided to give it another try and think I’ve figured it out and hopefully, simplified it. It’s really like two cards in one and just not that complicated. What was my problem? Here’s a link to a photo tutorial for the Joy Fold Card. Joy Fold Tutorial

A word of caution, don’t try to make this particular card without Tear & Tape to adhere the Burlap Ribbon to the card stock and the Eclectic Layer cut out piece to the top. It is the only thing that will work!

It’s a Joy Fold Card for New Baby!

A young friend of mine, Emma, recently gave birth to baby # 3, a sweet looking little girl, Phoebe. Emma provided my first experience with Stampin’ Up! I’ve made so many friends and had so many great experiences because of Stampin’ Up! I am forever grateful to her. So, her new baby calls for a special card. It’s been ages since I’ve made a joy fold card and I thought a new baby was a perfect reason for a joyful joy fold card!

I confess, it’s not a color combination I might have thought of, but I love it! This week, the Global Design Project has a color challenge and that was the color inspiration for me. Click on the image below to go on onver to their site to see lots of beautiful projects inspired by this color combination.

Design Notes for Joy Fold Card:

A joy fold card is not hard. However, it takes a bit of thought and planning. The basic cuts are pretty straightforward but there are lots of sides that need either a layer of card stock, or Designer Paper or minimally, some stamping. I love the soon to be retired, Fresh Floral Designer Series Paper and had a bit of the Lemon Lime Twist left to use. I like the combination of Melon Mambo and Lemon Lime Twist but felt I had to be carefully that the Melon Mambo didn’t overwhelm the other two colors. Since I was using the Lemon Lime Designer Paper that had a lot of white in it, it was especially important to give it some prominence and not let it be overwhelmed by the Melon Mambo. I think it worked out o.k.

I brought in some touches of Melon Mambo with the flowers. First, I stamped, then colored with Stampin’ Write Markers and then fussy cut. For the flower on the inside, I stamped right on the card stock. I have some extras that I cut out. Perhaps I’ll put one on the envelope.
