Manly Monday with Better Together

While it hasn’t been every Monday, it seems about once per week, I’ve given you a sample for those sometimes challenging cards for men. This Monday a bright birthday card fits that bill. I think you will like the color combination and the layout that I used with the Better Together stamp set.

The layout was inspired by this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Design Notes for Better Together Card:

I love the color combination!

Are you wondering about the middle part? I used a Sponge Brayer and some Blueberry Bushel ink on the inside of the Polka Dot Basics Embossing Folder. After you ink up one side of the folder, carefully place the card stock and run it through the Big Shot. I inked up the front part of the folder, where the title is. I thought the dots echoed the dots on the In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Paper.

The rest of the card is pretty straightforward – clean and simple is good!

In Every Season for FMS

I guess tulip season is over. Nonetheless, I do love them. The colors are so often vivid and cheery. With the In Every Season stamp set, you can have tulips (and lots of other flowers) whenever you want and in whatever color you want. Cool, right.

It was a easy choice to make some thing for this week’s sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches using the tulips. It’s a great sketch! Check it out.

I knew right away that the sentiment in the center would be from the beautiful Detailed with Love stamp set. So many nice sentiments. Here’s a look at that set.

Detailed with Love stamp set, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.comThe other fun things about this card was that I got to use my Stamparatus! Fun! I used the hinge technique. Since the image was larger than the distance between two hinges, I used every other hinge.

I did a second row along side but added a shim at the top so they would be staggered.

More About the Stamparatus:

Stamparatus is Stampin’ Up!’s new positioning tool. There are lots of great ways to use it. I highlighted a card using the hinge technique a few days and. Here’s a link to that post. In that post, I also have a video produced by Stampin’ Up! about the technique.

I you buy a Stamparatus during June, I am offering FREE shipping. However,to do this you need to order directly through me (not on-line). Email me ([email protected])

Hope you are having a great day and looking forward to a great weekend.

Being Inspired with Sweet Soiree

Yes, it’s true, I’m using the very beautiful Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper again. Yep, I’m pretty proud of myself. No more hoarding! This time, I paired it with a sentiment from the You’re Inspiring stamp set. Two “can’t miss’  items from the Occasions catalog.

Freshly Made Sketches challenge for this week was my layout inspiration. Here’s the sketch and link. Go on over and check out some other great cards.

Design Notes for Sweet Soiree Card:

One of the things that I love about this paper is that each side is a winner. Often when there are metallic elements on a sheet of paper, the other side is white. Not in this package. Each side is a winner. The bottom half of the card has a beautiful floral pattern on the other side. I cut the cake out from another sheet. That’s easy to do with my Paper Snips. There really isn’t anything too complicated about this card. I let the cake and dotted paper take center stage.

Amazing You, Doughnuts, and Freshly Made Sketches

Well, last week I used the Celebrate You Thinlits and promised more using those and the Amazing You stamp set. I did that. Tomorrow is Faschtnaut Day, also called Shrove Tuesday, also know as the day before Ash Wednesday. Growing up, Faschtnaut Day always meant we got doughtnuts!  So, as I was putting together a card for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I thought of the great paper from the Picture Perfect Party Designer Pack that has doughnuts pictured on it. Thus the title: Amazing You, Doughnuts, and Freshly Made Sketches. Here’s the card.

Here’s the challenge sketch and link to Freshly Made Sketches.

Design Notes for Amazing You Card:

Bermuda Bay card stock formed the background for the four panels of Picture Perfect Party Paper. I simply wrapped some Linen Thread around the card stock. A little stamping, and the cut out “YOU” were all I needed to finish the card. I can actually use this card for birthday, or many other occasions. I’ll stamp the inside when I need the card.

Both the stamp set and the Thinlits were FREE Sale-A-Bration items!

Flourishing Phrases for Sympathy

Oh, it was that time again. I needed a sympathy card. As much as I love making cards, it’s always hard to make sympathy cards. Of course, I pulled out one of my favorite stamp sets, Flourishing Phrases. It seems there is always a sentiment here that I can use, both for the outside and inside of the card.

Flourishing Phrases, sympathy, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

It’s a pretty clean and simple card. I was inspired by this week’s challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches. Here’s the link and logo should you want to go over to see what other great cards are there.

Design Notes for Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card:

I think figuring out the measurements for the layers on this card was the hardest part. I stamped the flower and the leaves so that there would still be a bit of white space near the top. I just felt it gave better balance. I experimented with adding another piece of Whisper White card stock at the bottom with the sentiment on it. But, it just looked too crowded. I’m always happy to do heat embossing so I am glad I thought of that! Here’s a look at the stamp set images.
