Gingham Gala – A Sweet Suite!

Have you seen the suite of products in the new Occasions catalog called Gingham Gala? You will love it! I’ve been having fun with the papers, stamps and punch. Here’s a card I made for a swap a week or so ago.

Gingham Gala Suite, Butterfly Gala stamp set, Butterfly duet Punch, Stamin' Up!, diannescards.com

Design Notes for Gingham Gala Card:

I had not made a gate fold card in awhile. So, why not. I think it’s a good way to show off this particular designer paper. Just about three years ago, I created a video on how to make this kind of card. Check out the video here.

Apparently, I’ve gotten better at making videos as now I don’t seem to have them at such an odd angle!

The front of this card is really the best part however, I used the squares from the Stitched Shapes Framelits to create the background for the butterfly. After I stamped, painted with Blends and punched it out, I added it to the front and then stamped on the antennae. Oh, make sure you stamp the body before you punch it out! I finished it off with a bit of Wink of Stella.

When you use the Butterfly Duet Punch, you get two butterflies. Bonus!  Since I just used one on the front of the card, I saved the second one for the inside.

Tailored Tag Punch for Manly Monday

Sometimes we need to remember and recognize someone in our life who is really wonderful. I think I forget this a little too often. I’ve made a card that can meet this need with the Tailored Tag Punch. Now to find the man for the card…just kidding.

Tailored Tag Punch, Masculine, Twinkle Twinkle Designer SEries Paper, Twinkle Builder Punch, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

Could this be any easier?

Design Notes for Tailored Tag Punch Card:

I used some pretty unlikely materials for this Manly Monday card! First, the designer paper is called Twinkle, Twinkle. When I first saw it in the catalog, I thought about baby cards. I think I have not made a baby card with it yet! Next, the Twinkle Builder Punch. It’s part of a bundle with Little Twinkle stamp set (think  “Babies”) So, the lesson here, don’t relegate stamps or papers or punches to certain kinds of cards!

Stamping on Designer Paper or card stock that isn’t Whisper White or Very Vanilla is always something I approach with some trepidation. However, I think this time stamping on the Gray Granite was pretty successful. I wanted the sentiment to pop a bit, so I backed it with some Night of Navy card stock. After punching some hexagons from the Twinkle, Twinkle Designer Paper and one from Soft Sea Foam card stock, I just had to arrange the shapes. The final touch was to add a few stars punched with the Twinkle Builder Punch.

Swirly Bird by the Sea

Over the years, my husband and I have taken lots of great vacations. It seems the ones that stand out are the ones by the sea. So it was easy to be inspired when I saw that the Global Design Project  challenge theme this week was “Take Me to the Sea”.  Swirly Bird was the perfect stamp set to carry out the challenge.

Don’t those colorful little sail boats just carry you away?

Design Notes for Swirly Bird Card:

I had fun with the Seaside Embossing Folder! Some ink (Pool Party and Bermuda Bay) on the inside before embossing gave the random color to the background piece. And can anything be better than some Wink of Stella? One of the tips for using Wink is to go over the area two or three times.

Thinking of You with Oh So Eclectic

This week’s Global Design Project challenge inspiration project is so beautiful. The challenge is to CASE the Designer. That means to copy bits or pieces, colors perhaps or design sketch, maybe stamp set, whatever. I thought a lot about what I wanted to do for this challenge. While I changed a few things, I changed it to a square but generally, I kept the idea of a sentiment surrounded by flowers. I used some flowers from  the Oh So Eclectic stamp set and Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

Design Notes for Oh So Eclectic Card:

Not sure why I went with the square idea except that I don’t make square cards very often. It was time. I first stamped the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape ink. The sentiment, by the way, is from the Petal Palette stamp set. Because I wanted to stamp both on the Whisper White piece and the Mint Macaron piece with one image (the leaf), I cut an opening in the Mint Macaron piece and fit the Whisper White piece inside so I had just one level. That way, I knew the stamping would be complete. The flowers were done in two steps with the lighter ink, Highland Heather for the more solid, background image and then the Gorgeous Grape for the detailed image. Easy to cut out with the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.

I cut a few extra leaves out and added them around the sentiment. The last step was to add a few layers of Wink of Stella on each of the flowers.

Country Memories with Touches of Texture

When I was a kid, we would occasionally go to the country for a picnic. I don’t remember the town, but it was along the Perkiomen Creek. I recall once seeing a field of pink wildflowers there not far from the creek. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the “Country” theme for the Global Design Project. The flower from Touches of Texture was perfect to portray this memory.

Design Notes for Touches of Texture Card:

I’m not sure I’ve ever used this flower from the stamp set before. And why not? It’s lovely. I stamped the flowers with Memento Ink Tuxedo Black Ink and then colored in with some new Stampin’ Blends, Flirty Flamingo and Soft Seafoam. Did you know that there are new colors available? I just received some of them and picked these two for this card. What a great color combination.

Since I stamped the flower outline with black, I thought it would be a good accent color. That’s how I happened to tie a bit of Black Baker’s Twine at the bottom.

Touches of Texture stamp set, #GDP147, Stampin' Blends, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

As I finished the coloring and mating of the flower piece, I realized that I needed some texture. The twine added some but I wanted a little more depth and interest. I nearly jumped with excitement when I thought of the Petal Pair Embossing Folder. It’s easy to just emboss part of the card stock layer. It was just enough.

I was prepared to leave the front without sentiment. Once I did a quick search of my stamps, I thought the “enjoy” from Tabs for Everything stamp set would be just right. I layered it with the same colors as I layered the flower piece. it seemed to all come together.
