Broadway Bound for Manly Monday

I know I used the Broadway Bound Specialty Designer paper for masculine cards before. But today’s card is a little different. I want to show you how you can use just a small piece of Designer Paper to add some pizzazz to a card front. Generally, I use a larger piece for a layer. This card is also quick and easy to make, #simplestamping.

So red and green don’t have to be just for Christmas!

Design Notes for Broadway Bound Card:

I used a 2″ wide strip of the Designer Paper to anchor the design. You could get 12 of these 5 1/4″ long strips from just one sheet of 12″ x 12″ paper! The colors came from the Designer Paper. Aren’t they great together?

After stamping the sentiment from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set on some Whisper white card stock, I realized that it needed something to make it pop a bit. So I simply punched another circle with the 2 1/4″ Circle Punch and set it behind the sentiment. Just what it needed. The Candle Embellishment was just the right accent.

I also stamped and decorated the inside!

A Birthday Card From Jo!

Last week was my birthday. I’m happy to say, I received lots of cards. But there is one that was really special. My dear friend and customer Jo sent me this special card.

birthday, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

Birthday card from Jo! Images © Stampin’ Up!

I know that Jo used some of the Graceful Glass Designer Paper and colored the leaves and flowers with her Stampin’ Blends. It’s had to see in the picture but the red paper is embossed with the Ruffled Embossing folder. What a nice contrast of textures.

What’s more amazing is that inside there is a lovely original poem and greeting. Jo probably makes hundreds of cards each year and writes original poems for each holiday, anniversary, birthday, etc. She is AMAZING. Without giving away any secrets, I want to be her when I am 86!

Today’s post is a bit shorter than usual. I am at a crop (scrapbooking event). Believe it or not, I’m working on our Christmas cards! Later this week I am off to Orlando for Stampin’ Up!’s Inspire, Create, Share event. Lots of fun there! I will be posting most days. I’ll keep you up to date on Stampin’ Up happenings  on Facebook as well.

Lined Alphabet for HBD!

If you are not on Facebook or under the age of 40, you might not know that HBD stands for Happy Birthday! I thought it would be cute on a card front. I think I made sure that the receiver will understand the message I wrote with the Lined Alphabet stamp set.

Design Notes for Lined Alphabet HBD:

This card went together pretty quickly. Instead of starting with the Designer Paper, I started with the card stock color. Not necessarily a good idea, but I made it work. Garden Impressions is one of those paper stacks that you think you would not be able to use for a masculine card. But, don’t rule it out. The reverse side of most of the beautiful, flower filled papers has great designs. They can be used for anyone! Here’s a close up of the paper.

Garden Impressions 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper Stack, Stampin' Up, Diannescards.com

To create the banner, I used the Lined Alphabet stamps, I was going to color in the letters but opted not to. Maybe next time. I used the dot from the exclamation point to create the asterisk. Do you know where the “To You” came from? I think it’s pretty unexpected. It’s part of one of the sentiments in the Flourishing Phrases stamp set. I just used a Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write Marker to add color to the part I wanted to stamp.

CASE the Catalog for Inspiration

Do you ever feel that you’ve just clear run out of ideas? I think that happens to all of us. Time to CASE! There are so many sources for inspiration though. One of them is our Stampin’ Up! catalogs. The card for today is one I CASed* from the Annual Catalog.

Here’s the card from the Annual Catalog. You can see I changed up a few things.

Catalog card, Stitched All Around, Stampin' Up!

Design Notes for CASE the Catalog:

*Case means Copy and Share Everywhere, or Copy and Selectively Edit. In other words, find something you like, put your spin on it, give credit to the source. It’s such a great way to get some inspiration and it is always pretty satisfying.

For my card, I did change up the most prominent color from Berry Burst to Grapefruit Grove. I also changed the size and the placement of the sentiment. Really, whenever you need to make a card and not have to think about it too much, trying CASeing. I have a series of videos that will give you some ideas about how to change up a card or project. Check out my YouTube site and watch these videos,

CASE Sunday – Eastern Palace Suite from Stampin’ Up!

CASE Sunday – Blooms & Wishes

CASE Sunday – Happy Birthday Gorgeous from Stampin’ Up

I also added some extra flowers that I had cut out along with a sentiment on the inside. Fussy cutting is so easy with Paper Snips!

A Tall Card for Manly Monday

I rarely think to make a card that is not a standard size. Who knows what made me think to make a card that’s not standard and just a little bit of a tall card for today. Maybe because I got to use the Envelope Punch Board. I also had fun with the Stamparatus. Well, there are so many things to love on this card. Hard to say. But, here’s the card.

Stamparatus, Vertical Greetings stamp set, Rooted in Nature stamp set, Tine Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder, Galvanized Metallic Paper, Nature's Roots Framelits, Envelope Punch Board, Stampin' Up!, Diannescards.com

Before I Continue….

I got a bit of news on Sunday about the 24 Hour sale. Looks like some great stamp sets will be on sale. Yea!  Check out the video.

Here’s the list of stamp sets.

30th birthday sale items, Stampin' Up!

Design Notes for Tall Card:

When you want to have stamps placed “just so” the Stamparatus is the tool you need. I knew I wanted the “Happy Birthday” to be repeated on the card front – but not randomly! Because you can change where you put the stamp by moving the hinged acrylic plates, I knew I had to use the Stamparatus.

Stamparatus, Vertical Greetings stamp set, Rooted in Nature stamp set, Tine Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder, Galvanized Metallic Paper, Nature's Roots Framelits, Envelope Punch Board, Stampin' Up!, Diannescards.com

But, I didn’t move the acrylic plates! After each stamping, I moved the card stock down 1/2″ and over 1/2″.

Do you notice the partially stamped Happy Birthday? We have Small Grid Sheets that fit perfectly on the Stamparatus now. (I was originally going to have the sentiment repeat in a different way.)

I wanted to add some texture to the card front. The Galvanized Metallic Paper was meant for the Tin Tile Dynamic Embossing Folder!

And do you love this color combination? I think they compliment each other and both look great with the Galvanized Metallic Paper.

Because it was a different shape, I needed a custom made envelope. No problem with the Envelope Punch Board.

Supply List for Tall Card:

Both of the stamp sets that I used for this card come in both clear mount and wood mount. The Rooted in Nature set is also part of a Bundle. Always get the Bundle!

Don’t Forget!

Come back tomorrow and see what’s on sale. There is sure to be something you can’t live without.
