No doubt, you’ve seen some cards made with the beautiful new stamp set, Free As A Bird. I’ve made a card or two with that set. I just love it! Today, I tried something new – a shadow box. I used one of the birds in the frame.
Don’t you love the shadow box? I first saw it on my friend, Brian King’s blog (see his shadow box here.) But the pattern for this cool frame comes from Julie DiMatteo. She has some samples, directions and a great video on her blog post here.
Design Notes for Free As A Bird Shadow Box:
I won’t give you any directions for the shadow box. Julie does a great job with that! I did add some trim using a framelit from the Magnolia Memory Dies set to add some interest to the frame.
The bird was so much fun to color. I used Stampin’ Blends for the bird, branch and flower. I also did a little experimenting with the Color Lifter. Gotta confess, I’ve had it for awhile and had not used it before this! But, WOW, it worked perfectly! I colored the breast of the bird with the Calypso Coral Light Blend. It was just a bit darker than I wanted and used the Color Lifter to lighten it up. I’m hooked now!
I added a little “Hello” stamped in Seaside Spray. A bit of twine added some interest there. Finally, I stamped, colored and cut out a tiny flower. The center was completed with a Metallic Pearl.
