Vertical Greetings for Baby Card

Does that seems odd? I really like the Vertical Greetings stamp set. I’ve used it lots for birthdays and for Thank You cards. The “Congrats ” sentiment was just sitting there looking all lonely. So – Vertical Greetings for Baby!

Vertical Greetings for Baby, baby card, Happy Birthday Gorgeous

I needed to make a variety of cards to fill some boxes I will sell at our Craft Fair (in December!) and wanted to add a baby card. So, green and yellow will cover any eventuality! Can you guess where the Designer Paper came from? It’s part of the Delightful Daisy Designer Series pack.

Design Notes for Vertical Greetings For Baby Card:

I wouldn’t say this card is terribly complicated. Tedious might be a word that comes to mind. Each of those little hearts and the teeny tiny hearts were put on with Liquid Glue. But, I thought the effect was worth it. The balloons were stamped with greetings from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set. I also used the “Horray” balloon on the inside and on the envelope.

By the way, the small hearts came from a die in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits set. The teeny tiny hearts are from the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.

Heartfelt Sympathy and a New Technique?

Fortunately, I guess, I don’t need a sympathy card at the moment. I decided to make some cards ahead of the need. Not always that organized. I love the Heartfelt Sympathy stamp set. The font is so different. I decided to try something I THOUGHT I had read about, using  drops of ink and Wink of Stella. After I did the cards, and loved the look, I found out I hadn’t read very carefully and it was about Watercolor Pencils and Wink of Stella. Sounds interesting, I will try it. In the meantime, I might have invented a new technique! Do you like the look behind the dragonflies?

My inspiration for this card started with this week’s Global Design Project Challenge. This time the challenge was to CASE the Designer. If you saw my blog post a few days ago, you know all about CASEing. Here’s a link to that post and the video tutorial. You will also want to look at the Global Design Challenge and see how others have interpreted this CASE. Click on the photo to go to that website.

Design Notes for Heartfelt Sympathy Card:

Don’t you love the card from the challenge?  It’s really not complicated but is really lovely.

For my card, I used the colors, (more or less) and the dragonfly elements. My background was created by putting a drop or two of  Soft Sky ink refill on a Silicon Mat. Then I took a clear Wink of Stella pen and squeezed it until a few drops came out. (You are generally, not supposed to do that!) I mixed the color in with the Wink of Stella brush and painted it on the front of the card. I’m calling this technique, Wink of Ink.

I also added some of the Wink of Ink to the Dragonflies. By the way, when you are cutting out the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, be sure to use a Precision Plate. In addition to making it easier to release the thinlit from the paper, it will extend the life of your thinlit by preventing it from bowing.

A Special Birthday Card For My BFF

Yesterday was my best friend’s birthday. I don’t want to tell you how many years we’ve known one another but it all started on the first day of high school. Enough said. I have been wanting to try the peek-a-boo shutter card and thought I could make something nice with that special fold and the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper. Here’s my best effort.

I do love the color combination of Fresh Fig and Sweet Sugarplum. But, the best part of the card is on the inside.

Isn’t that cool? I saw a video and card samples on Dawn Griffith’s blog a few weeks ago. This seemed just the right occasion to try this special card.

I think my favorite part, aside from the opening and closing of the shutter inside, is the gold frame around the sentiment.

Stylized Happy Birthday for my Quilting Friends

One of my neighbors, Sue, is a wonderful quilter. The other day, she showed me a quilt she had recently finished for her son. So beautiful!  I was immediately inspired to make a card using the same quilt pattern and Stylized Happy Birthday stamp. I’m not sure I captured ‘quilt’ idea in the background, but I thought it turned out o.k.

And here is Sue’s quilt. well the top, at least/

Sue's quilt top

Design Notes for Stylized Happy Birthday Card:

Since Sue’s quilt had a masculine look to it (though it would be perfectly lovely anywhere!) I decided to use the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Pack. I fashioned a trapezoid from card stock, then traced and cut shapes from the Designer Series paper. Don’t look at my card too closely, the shapes are not perfectly aligned. I think my career as a quilter would be short lived. Sue had a lovely border fabric all around the edges. I decided to use two layers of ribbon to form an interesting border,  Crumb Cake Classic Weave Ribbon and Copper Trim. Pretty much any excuse to use Copper Trim works for me.

In this picture, you can see the copper heat embossed “Happy Birthday”. I did some fussy cutting and then used Dimensionals, both regular and Mini, on the back.See where I used the Mini Dimensional on the top of the H?

Stylized Happy birthday stamp, mini Dimensionals,

So, while I was at it, I became inspired, again, to make a more feminine card. Here’s how that one turned out.

For this one I used Petal Garden Designer Series Paper, Powder Pink Finely Woven Ribbon and Silver Natural Trim. Again, don’t look at my ‘quilting’ too closely!

Positively Picturesque Paper Pumpkin

Well that is a mouthful! Positively Picturesque is the name of this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit. Here’s a look at what’s in the kit. This month’s kit had two Stampin’ Squares, Soft Sky and Tranquil Tide. Positively Picturesque Paper Pumpkin, July 17, Stampin Up!, diannescards.com

The kit made eight cards, two each of four designs, with lined envelopes. The stamp set is one I know I will use again. And I always love it when Washi tape is included.  Here are the cards.

Alternate Positively Picturesque Project:

There was lots of Washi tape left over and of course, the stamps and ink. so, with just a little of my card stock, I made this card.

I am thinking that I will be making this card for my July customers as a thank you.
