Happy Birthday Gorgeous Meets Oh So Eclectic!

I’m baaaaack! I know it has been a few weeks since I showed you a card for one of the men in your life. But, I’m back! This week the card will feature some of the Floral Romance Designer Series Paper and stamps from Happy Birthday Gorgeous and Oh So Eclectic stamp sets.

Design Notes for Happy Birthday Gorgeous Card:

Are you surprised that I would use paper from a package called “Floral Romance”? It’s a great package of paper with two beautiful vellum papers and some lovely prints. The one I used today just seems to work for anyone. The reverse side is truly perfect for men as well. Here, I just flipped the Designer Paper and switched the colors.

This card is just a happy series of layers on a Sahara Sand base. First, a piece of 2″ x 5 1/2″ Floral Romance Designer Paper, then a mat of Mossy Meadow. The leaves on the Very Vanilla piece were stamped once then stamped two more times without reinking. You know that’s called stamping off. A really simple technique but one that packs quite a nice look.

Floral Romance for February Thank You

I love to send cards to my customers to thank them for purchasing from me. It’s always fun for me to design something nice. This month, one of the cards we made in card class featured the Floral Romance paper and so I used a different piece from that collection for this card.

floral Romance DSP, Humming Along stamp set, Floral Romance Deigner Paper, Thank you, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

Do you think I went a little rogue with the colors –  Petal Pink, Pear Pizzazz and Grapefruit Grove?

Design Notes for Floral Romance Designer Paper:

In the Floral Romance paper package, two of the papers are vellum. I used one that is primarily Powder Pink and backed it with a piece of Whisper White card stock to show off the pattern. First, I tried using a mat with Powder Pink but felt like it needed something with more color. So, the Pear Pizzazz mat – enhanced with some embossing with the Tin Tile Embossing Folder – added some color. One more try with Petal Pink but still no! I was inspired to use some Grapefruit Grove paper by the beautiful ribbon from the Organza Ribbon Comb – a Sale-A-Bration item that is back in stock!

I’m pretty happy with this color combination.

.

One last thing.. I decided that the envelop needed a little love and wanted to try something I had seen online. I used the Edgelit die from the Be Mine Dies set.

A Penguin Trio Says “Bon Voyage”

Some friends of ours are leaving on a cruise today. They are going around South America. They are excited about the cruise and especially about seeing some penguins. I thought that some punch art penguins would add to a cute Bon Voyage card.

Aren’t those penguins cute!?

Design Notes for Penguin Bon Voyage Card:

I guess I have been into punch art recently. If you recall, I created a card for a little boy that had a character from Sesame Street. I called it Elmo but it was really Bert, or was it Ernie. (Check out whoever it was here.) So, I’ve decided that punch art really means looking at whatever you want to create and breaking it down to basic shapes. Turns out penguins are really ovals and circles. I used Layering Oval Framelits Dies for the body and  1 1/4″ Circle Punch for the head. The feet are made with the bow from the Cookie Cutter Punch. The eyes and mouth are also from that punch. And the little flippers… Leaf Punch! Who knew!

I wanted the card to be a little bigger than usual. It ended up being 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Bring out the Envelope Punch Board! I used some paper from the Twinkle, Twinkle Designer Series Paper package.

Incredible Like You for Blog Highlights

It’s that time again, Kylie Bertucci’s International Blog Highlights. I love seeing all the terrific cards made by demonstrators from all over the world! The theme this month is encouragement. Aren’t there lots of times when someone needs a little encouragement? I think so. Sometimes our friends or family just don’t know how wonderful they are! This month I made a special card for someone special to remind her about how terrific she is. The Incredible Like You stamp set was just the ticket!

Incredible Like You stamp set, Modern Grid Technique, Everyday Label Punch, Aqua Painter, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

Be sure to go over to Kylie’s Post to see the other cards. And while you are there, could you vote for my card? Last month I got enough votes to participate in the International Blog Hop. I really appreciate you vote! Click here.

Design Notes for Incredible Like You Card:

I tried a new technique for this card. Did you notice? It’s called Modern Grid Technique. I saw it on another demonstrator’s website (Tinz Zinck). It’s deceptively easy! I’m going to write up a tutorial later this week and will share it with you.

I love this color combination. The Flirty Flamingo seems to go with so many colors but I think it really pops with the Coastal Cabana and Mossy Meadow. You should try it!

The flowers seem to have so much dimension. That’s easy to accomplish with the two step stamps.

Incredible Like You stamp set, Modern Grid Technique, Everyday Label Punch, Aqua Painter, Stampin' Up!, diannescards.com

There are two flower stamps in the set that go together. Stamp one, then stamp the other. I know it looks like two different shades but I used the Flirty Flamingo ink with both stamps. Also, it doesn’t matter which one you stamp first. Just line them up. (Easy to do with photopolymer stamps!)

Copper Tea Tins for Valentine Treats

Each month, I hold four card classes. We make cards and have lots of fun. I love to offer a door prize each month. Sometimes, it’s a spool of ribbon, or a package of embellishments. Occasionally, I make something like cards or boxes. This month, I was inspired! I decorated some Copper Tea Tins and filed them with Valentine candies. It was fun putting them together. I hope my friends will be excited about possibly winning!

If you win, you can keep it for yourself or give it to someone else – with or without the candy!

Design Notes for Copper Tea Tins Valentine:

Are you wondering about the stamped sentiment? I was looking for something small and ended up using a sentiment from the January Paper Pumpkin kit! Isn’t it perfect? I keep all of my past Paper Pumpkin stamp sets and find they often come in handy.

The Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper seemed just right to go with the copper tin. The ribbon is from the Annual Catalog and is part of the Tea Room Suite. I love the copper hued trim on the edges.
