I almost titled this post “Gift Bag Punch Board for Dummies”. But, I didn’t want to insult anyone. However, I must confess, that I’ve owned the Punch Board since it came out and occasionally used it but with great frustration. Yes, I read the directions, Yes, I watched the video – more than once! I just didn’t get it. What I got was lots of wasted paper and frustrated. But, that’s all history!!!

On Saturday I saw lots of demonstrator friends at the Stampin’ Up! On Stage event in Hartford. I like to have little treats for everyone and decided to make a cute bag for my little gift. It was time for a face off with the Gift Bag Punch Board.

Anatomy of the Bag

I realized that when I was punching, I really didn’t understand which part of the bag I was working on. Some of my first attempts, if they had been punched correctly, were upside down. I didn’t even get the top/bottom part!

Here’s something that helped me.

Going from top to bottom, it’s back, side, front, side, flap. It’s like a chant…. back, side, front, side, flap.  Repeat:  back, side, front….. Well, you get the idea.

Anatomy of the Gift Bag Punch Board:

Well, who knew? There are different score lines. One is to frame the front and back, the other is to form the sides with gussets.

This little marking, “side'”  made all the difference for me!

Oh and the illustration at the left of the board is just the tiniest bit confusing. But, I learning to live with it.

Another hint. Score along the bottom all the way along first, not in little spurts. You’ll forget if you are like me. Do it all at once.

So once I conquer something, I like to do it lots of times. Here are the gift bags I made for my Stampin’ Up! friends.

Notice I heat embossed the little tag. Inside the bag there was some candy, a tiny spoon to spoon up embossing powder and a foam brush to remove any stray embossing powder.

Please Comment:

Well, now that I’ve confessed my incompetence, I kind of hope I’m not the only one. Please leave a comment if you have any additional hints. Maybe you knew how it use it from the beginning and can’t imagine what my problem was. Maybe you think I need to do a video. Let me know what you think.

Hope you are having a great day.
