I seem to always need birthday cards. You too? The other day I realized that one of my favorite stamp sets, Sweet Cupcake had been just the tiniest bit neglected lately. So I pulled it off of the shelf and went to town.
i was inspired by the FabFriday challenge this week. Don’t you love this sketch for the layout?
I think my favorite part of this card is the color combination.
Design Notes For Sweet Cupcake Card:
The thing that is the most fun about this stamp set is that you can add dimension by layering the stamps two or even three times. The plastic that the stamps are on has numbers so you know where to begin and how to build up the layers. Both the cupcake base and the frosting are layered, the candle too!
Here’s a close up look at the cupcake. First, I used three brown shades for the bottom (a chocolate cupcake, of course). Next, the frosting was made with Powder Pink and Sweet Sugarplum inks. I opted to just use two layers. I used the Cupcake Cutouts Thinlits to cut out the “sweet” both in Powder Pink and Sweet Sugarplum. And can you see how I used a Spong Dauber with Smoky Slate ink to add some interest to the Smoky Slate side of the card? Such an easy way to add interest and dimension.
Tip for Today
When stamping in layers, usually you want to start with the lightest color and move to a darker color.
